Photo: Edgar Snow CollectionEdgar Snow (1905-1972) was an American journalist known for his books and articles about the Communist revolution in China. He was the first Western journalist to interview Mao Zedong, and is best known for his book »Red Star Over China« (1938), an account of the Chinese Communist movement from its foundation until the late 1930s. During the McCarthy years it became increasingly difficult for Snow to publish in the USA. He moved to Switzerland in 1959 after writing his autobiography »Journey to the Beginning« (1958). In »The Long Revolution« (1972), published posthumously, he wrote about his last trip to China and meeting with Mao Zedong in 1970.
